The principles that guide HTEA — and the standards we hold ourselves to in every edition.
HTEA is not just about trophies. It is a platform with a responsibility — to the industry, to the states we work in, and to the people who trust us to recognise excellence fairly. These values are how we honour that responsibility.
No favouritism. No sponsorship pressure on outcomes. No hidden criteria. Awards are earned, not bought. We will turn down money that comes with strings attached to judging.
We celebrate the best, and we hold ourselves to the same standard. From event execution to judging process to communication with nominees, HTEA operates at a level worthy of the industry it honours.
Categories are published. Criteria are public. Judging panels are known. Winners are announced openly. Nothing about HTEA happens behind closed doors.
HTEA rotates across Nigeria's 36 states and the FCT. Every edition leaves behind a stronger hospitality ecosystem, better standards, and a cohort of recognised professionals.
Nigeria's hospitality sector is built on local culture. HTEA honours that — celebrating cuisine, traditions, and the stories that make Nigerian hospitality distinct.
Students and professionals compete on the same stage. A hotel in Kwara gets the same standard of evaluation as a hotel in Lagos. Excellence has no rank, age, or location.
We commit to a platform where every nominee is verified, every judge is independent, every vote is counted fairly, and every award is earned.
We commit to publishing the criteria, the panel, and the process — because a platform that cannot be scrutinised cannot be trusted.
We commit to treating every nominee with respect — whether they win or not.
The operating principles behind every HTEA decision.
The structural safeguards that protect the integrity of every HTEA award.
Permanent custodians of the HTEA standard. Approves categories, oversees every edition, signs off on each local panel, and handles disputes and appeals.
Each host state assembles its own panel — drawn from hotel associations, government, and the business sector. Local insight, national standards.
Public votes carry weight in specific categories but do not determine winners alone. Judges' scores and public votes are combined against published weightings.
Every nominee is verified for eligibility before shortlisting. False claims of eligibility lead to disqualification.
Any nominee may file a written objection within 7 days of shortlisting. The National Board reviews and responds in writing.
All nominee and contestant data is handled in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
HTEA exists partly because these practices are too common in Nigerian awards. We reject them openly.
Where sponsors or nominees can buy their way to a trophy. Not on HTEA. Sponsorship and judging are completely separated.
Where "nominees" are invented to fill a stage. Every HTEA nominee is a real, verified business or individual.
Where government or corporate logos appear on a flyer without any signed agreement. HTEA only lists real, confirmed partners.
Where event organisers claim attendee numbers, government approval, or media partners they don't have. We publish only what we can prove.
If you see HTEA fail to live up to any value on this page, tell us. A platform that cannot be held accountable cannot be trusted.
